  You can make a case for people like Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King (and many others) but my special interest is BRITISH black history so … If you look at a recent online poll of the 100 greatest black Britons then Equiano is in 4th place. The list is topped by Mary Seacole and If you looked particularly at women then she would be in with a shout. But I think the part Equiano played in the campaign against slavery is more significant than her role as a nurse, so I suggest the answer to your question is … me!
